Your adventure starts bright and early with a 5 a.m. pickup from your accommodation. From there, youâll be driven to Km 82, the official starting point of the Inca Trail. Upon arrival, youâll meet your guide and the rest of the group for a brief orientation, covering safety tips and what to expect on the journey ahead. Once everyone is ready, weâll begin our hike along the Vilcanota River, surrounded by breathtaking scenery. The trail offers stunning views of lush valleys, snow-capped peaks, and the serene river flowing alongside us, making for a truly picturesque start to the trek.
As we continue, weâll see the ancient ruins of Llactapata from above, a remarkable archaeological site that showcases the ingenuity and artistry of the Inca civilization. Here, youâll have time to explore the ruins, learn about their history, and take in the incredible views of the surrounding mountains. The trail on this first day is relatively relaxed, designed to help you ease into the adventure while soaking up the natural beauty and cultural significance of the region.
Around midday, weâll stop at a local village where a delicious lunch will be served, giving you a chance to recharge and connect with fellow hikers. After lunch, weâll resume our journey, making our way toward Wayllabamba, our campsite for the evening. Nestled at 3,300 m (10,829 ft) above sea level, Wayllabamba offers a peaceful setting to unwind and enjoy a hearty dinner under the stars before resting up for the next dayâs trek.
