You’ll wind through stunning landscapes and feel the spirit of Apu Salkantay and Humantay, transitioning from misty cloud forests to alpine vegetation and high-altitude passes boasting snow-capped peaks. This trail holds historical significance, incorporating sacred aspects of the Quechua culture. Mountain Salkantay, also known as the "Savage Mountain," stands an imposing 20,574 feet tall and is revered as the protector of the Andean people. This trek is a blend of natural beauty, cultural immersion, and ancient history, culminating in a visit to the magical Machu Picchu.

Visitors can anticipate breathtaking views, unique ecosystems, and well-preserved cultural traditions along the way. Each day is filled with memorable moments, from stargazing in high-altitude camps to sipping local coffee sourced directly from the cloud forest.

Itinerary

Your adventure begins bright and early as we pick you up from your hotel at  AM. From there, we set off on a 3.5-hour scenic drive through breathtaking landscapes, passing charming villages and lush valleys until we reach Soraypampa, the starting point of the trail. Here, you’ll take your first steps into the heart of the Andes. Before continuing the trek, we’ll stop to visit the stunning turquoise Humantay Lagoon, a serene and picturesque spot that helps you acclimatize to the altitude while soaking in the beauty of your surroundings. After some time to rest, take photos, and enjoy the view, we continue our hike toward Soyrococha, traversing rugged trails with incredible views of towering peaks and verdant hillsides. Upon arrival at our campsite, you’ll settle in for the evening under a starry sky, surrounded by the majestic presence of Mount Salkantay. Our team will ensure you’re comfortable and well-prepared for the next day’s adventure.

Wake up to a warm cup of coca tea and take in the stunning mountain views as you prepare yourself for the most challenging yet rewarding part of the trek: crossing the Salkantay Pass at an impressive 15,091 feet. The climb to the pass offers breathtaking vistas of rugged peaks and glaciers, making the effort well worth it. After soaking in the incredible views, begin your descent through lush cloud forests teeming with unique flora and fauna, eventually arriving at our serene campsite at Qollpapampa. Rest and recharge under the stars as the sounds of nature surround you.

Trek through lush, vibrant cloud forests as you follow the winding path of the Lluskamayo River, surrounded by breathtaking natural beauty. Along the way, you’ll visit a local coffee plantation where you’ll get a hands-on experience in the art of coffee roasting and preparation, gaining insight into the rich traditions of the region. This day is all about slowing down and appreciating the tranquility of the surrounding ecosystem, from the gentle sounds of the river to the diverse wildlife hidden in the forest.

Our hike takes us to the fascinating Llaqtapata ruins, an off-the-beaten-path spot that offers a breathtaking and unique first glimpse of Machu Picchu. From this vantage point, you’ll get to appreciate the incredible history and landscape surrounding the ancient citadel. After spending some time taking in the views, we’ll descend to Hydroelectric, a scenic area where we’ll continue our journey by following the train tracks through lush greenery and stunning mountain scenery to reach Aguas Calientes. This charming town, nestled at the base of Machu Picchu, is the perfect place to relax and recharge before the main event of your adventure.

Rise early to visit the breathtaking citadel of Machu Picchu, one of the most iconic and awe-inspiring archaeological sites in the world.
