DAY 8.- COCHA PERDIDA – MONKEY ISLAND
We start this day fully connected with nature and a good breakfast at our Eco Amazonia Lodge. After that we will head to Cocha Perdida. As we walk, we will be surrounded by fruit, forest, and medicinal trees, we might spot various animal species along our path, such as the jaguar or otorongo, the lowland tapirs, and the peccaries; rodents like capybaras, agouties, and armadillos; primates like the Red Howler Monkeys and Squirrel Monkeys; reptiles like the iguana and Fer-de-Lance; amphibians like the toad and birds like guans, parakeets, and Scarlet, Blue-and-Yellow Macaws.
Aguajales are trees of great importance in the jungle, considered as the plant of mystery or tree of life, which accompany us throughout lakes, and oxbows.
After venturing through the jungle, we will reach Cocha Perdida and climb up to a high canopy tower. From this viewpoint, you can appreciate the vast area covered by this magical place, where you can see two types of aguajales: dense and mixed. We will explore around Cocha Perdida, and if we are lucky, we might spot the Giant River Otter, the largest of its kind and one of the most impressive animals in the Amazon, before returning to our lodge to recharge with a local lunch of the area.
In the afternoon, we will start a new hike. The path will be short, heading towards Monkey Island. This place showcases a huge variety of lush flora and hosts numerous species of primates, such as the spider monkey, capuchin, squirrel monkey, and marmoset. In addition to other small mammals like the coati (Nasua), squirrel, and a huge variety of colorful birds. Be ready! We will return to our lodge with the farewell of a beautiful sunset and the dusk of the Sun. (Note: The visit to Monkey Island is optional.)
