Itinerary
The experience begins with a pickup from your hotel in Cusco for a trip to the South Valley, a less crowded route rich in history, Andean landscapes, and living traditions. As the vehicle travels, agricultural fields, rolling hills, and small villages accompany the journey.
The first stop is Tipón, one of the most impressive examples of Inca hydraulic engineering. Here, water flows constantly through channels perfectly carved into the stone, demonstrating the advanced knowledge the Incas possessed regarding water resource management. During the guided tour, you will learn about the ceremonial and agricultural functions of the site, as well as enjoy a tranquil and well-preserved natural environment.
Next, the journey continues to Pikillacta, a sprawling pre-Inca city belonging to the Wari culture. Its straight streets, stone walls, and urban planning reveal an advanced social organization, quite distinct from the Inca style. The guide will explain the historical importance of the site and its role in the development of Andean civilizations.
The final stop is Andahuaylillas, a charming colonial town that is home to the famous Church of San Pedro. Inside, you’ll discover murals, gilded altarpieces, and works of art that have earned it the title of the «Sistine Chapel of the Americas.» This cultural finale offers a clear vision of the syncretism between the Andean world and Spanish influence.
After the tour, you’ll return to Cusco with a deeper understanding of the history, architecture, and identity of the South Valley.
